Fire Safety

Fire safety refers to precautions that are taken to prevent or reduce the likelihood of a fire that may result in death, injury, or property damage, alert those in a structure to the presence of a fire in the event one occurs, better enable those threatened by a fire to survive, or to reduce the damage caused by a fire. Fire safety measures include those that are planned during the construction of a building or implemented in structures that are already standing, and those that are taught to occupants of the building. Threats to fire safety are referred to as fire hazards. A fire hazard may include a situation that increases the likelihood a fire may start or may impede escape in the event a fire occurs.Employees have the right to feel safe and secure in the workplace. In order to uphold workplace safety the employers should always keep the welfare of their employees in mind when creating a work environment. Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention, Fire Extinguishing System, Escape Routes should be given priority in objective of achieving 'Zero Accident' workplace. One more area that should be given priority is the high-rise building. The modern architecture is witnessing vertical expansion of the buildings due to the increasing population and less available space. However these buildings need to be adequately fire protected. Much activity is taking place today regarding fire safe building design. The knowledge in the field of fire protection is undergoing development and recognition that will enable buildings to be designed for fire safety more rationally and efficiently. Adequate fire prevention and protection lead to the safety of occupations and buildings. To mitigate the sources of fire and losses due to it, planning at the architects' table would help in designing a fire safe building. Both active and passive fire defenses provide reasonable safety from the effects of fire. Hence a well knit plan, its implementation in the design and construction of a high-rise residential building executes a fire safe structure.
